Time To Heal And Move Forward

We, as Americans now can move forward. The mid-terms are over. And win or lose it’s time to lick our wounds. The nastiness and vitriol that encompassed the latest elections are over (unless you’re in Arizona!). We now have a chance to make American the beacon the world looks to, the place where dreams can come true.

Is it possible in this time of hate? Yes it is. While we may not agree on the way forward, we have to agree to move forward. The racists and the anti-Semites need to put aside their hate and understand that we can rise above it all. We can, despite our differences, return our country to the gold standard of the world.

How can we put aside these differences? The differences have always been here. It’s just that in the last few years permissions has been given to act out. We can’t turn a racist into an anti-racist, we can’t turn an anti-Semite around. They have the right to their beliefs. They do not have the right to impose their beliefs on the rest of us.

So let us begin with ourselves, knowing that we all have different feelings and beliefs about the direction of our country. Within each of us is the ability to accept, while at the same time not agreeing with, those around us. The teams are assembled, the goals are in front of us, we only have one direction to head with many routes to get there.

For the next two years our government is set. Some of us won’t like the make up, some of us will, but all of us must accept that way it is. No more fighting about voter fraud, no more law suits to change the outcomes (Arizona again). It’s done, enough is enough.

No Time To Mince Words

I’m not one to mince words. Though from time to time I do hold back a bit. NO LONGER!

Any elected or campaigning Republican who does not denounce any Trumpian Republican must not continue in, or be voted into, office. There are only a couple of Republicans that I would even consider to be eligible (and that would be a stretching it).

The whack-a-do governor of Florida who is trying to be more Trump-like than Trump is taking on Disney. He is saying that if Disney continues to campaign to overturn the “Don’t Say Gay” bill they will lose their special rights (rights which we can argue the legitimacy of later). In other words he believes in free speech as long as it doesn’t disagree with him. I’m hoping Disney can just shut down operations in Florida and find a new home. I know, I know, this leaves tens of thousands out of work and leaves the Orlando area with a huge debt load. I don’t like this because it hurts the people who need it the most. Maybe though Floridians will get a backbone and vote this fucker out of office. Colorado has already opened its arms to Disney.

I, for one, will not even consider a Republican candidate no matter what positions they espouse to, this limits my opportunities, limits me to voting for Democrats or Independents even if I don’t agree with all their platforms. But in good conscience I cannot do it. Republicans in general, not in particular, are trying to turn back the clock and all the gains that the minorities, the disaffected and any of those outside of the mainstream have made in this country. At a time when the United States of America has finally started to get closer to equal rights, so many want to take those rights away. There may be a select few Democrats that do not see it my way and I will weed those out. And maybe there are a select few Republicans that are moral, ethical, humane individuals but they are hard to find. Most are still hiding behind Trump’s skirts.

As I see it a majority of Republican candidates, officials and citizens are just homophobic, racist, anti-human rights, they believe that the white man (not white women of course) needs to be in charge A surprising number of people in the country feel the same. And while they were quiet for many years as equal rights spread, they have a voice today. And that voice is Trump.

How much worse could it get? I really don’t want to find out.

VOTE. VOTE. VOTE. I ask you to vote, and unapologetically I ask you to vote Democratic. No Republican should hold office in this country, period. Maybe some day my mind will change.

Vaccination

To vaccinate or not? That is the questions careening down our highways. City to city, state to state, should I vaccinate?

Of course, YES is my answer. Others I know say absolutely not. What are their reasons? What could possibly be their reasons? I have heard all the different excuses.

  • Vaccines are bad. This is the catch-all for anti-vaxxers.
  • Vaccines cause Autism. Fully debunked but still out there
  • MRNA vaccines are too new to be safe. MRNA technology has been around and in use for some time. We were able to create these Covid-19 vaccines so quickly due to the years of study in to MRNA feasibility.
  • Vaccines change our DNA. Just crazy, nothing more to say.
  • Vaccines insert GPS tracking microprocessors into our blood stream. See above comment
  • Vaccines are an infringement on our privacy and rights. Why then is it okay to get vaccines to travel to certain parts of the world?
  • Vaccines do not prevent the spread of Covid-19. That is true. No vaccine is 100% effective. It does, however, reduce the chance of serious illness, reduce the chance of one spreading the virus. There are those that say everyone has or will have the virus in their system so no vaccine will be effective. Common sense says that if the virus does not have the ability to multiply as effectively in a vaccinated person, that person will not have as much virus to spread to others.
  • Vaccines are a government (Democratic) plot to control the population. Another crazy conspiracy theory that should just be tossed out.

The above list contains the most common excuses I have heard. There are more. To those that refuse to be vaccinated that is your right. It is also my right to not have you near me. Please stay away until you see the light of day. I am not afraid of getting sick, I have been vaccinated. If I do contract Covid-19 it will probably be a mild case. However, I do not want to take the chance of spreading the virus to some of my very vulnerable relatives and friends. Even though they are vaccinated and boosted a case of Covid-19 would be tough on them. They either have underlying conditions or are elderly, or both. Or they are too young to receive the vaccination yet.

So quit trying to convince me you know better. Get your vaccines and your booster shots. There are those of you out there that I would love to be in contact with. But without this protection I must pull back and stay safe.
