The Saving of Democracy

I know I’m about to either lose friends or gain friends (or maybe no one will care at all). But here goes:

I firmly believe that Kamala Harris is the correct choice for the USA. Not so much that I agree with every one of her policies, because I don’t. She’s the only logical choice because she wants to move the country forward. She’s upbeat and hopeful. She believes in democracy. She believes that opportunity should, and must exist for all. She believes that government’s job is to provide that opportunity. Be it with assistance, education and any other way the government can help. Her tax policies are the best for everyone. Though the richest Americans may not agree. Her border policy will help, especially if she can find a way to get a bill through The House (something that the republicans squashed). Kamala Harris will help rebuild this country. Yes prices are still high, no one denies that. Corporate greed has continued to push prices so that they make record profits while people are hurting. Is that Capitalism or greed?

I also firmly believe that Donald Trump is the worst choice in American history. He is a racist. He is a misogynist. He is a dictator wannabe. His beliefs range from the outlandish to the dangerous. He will raise taxes on the middle class while lowering taxes on the richest. A theory that has never worked in the past. He will separate families for his mass deportation. He rallied against a border bill because it would hurt his campaign, effectively caring more about him than our country. His will not defend a women’s right to choose. He wants to take away birthright citizenship. He wants to destroy NATO. He says he has no idea what Project 2025 is, even while it was written by members of his staff, his supporters and other white supremacists who all confirm that he knows it all too well. Even his own VP pick wrote a forward in a book by one of the authors of Project 2025.

Here’s where I may ruffle feathers:
I believe that anyone who supports Donald Trump does not support democracy. His supporters believe that a white Christian government and society are the future of the USA. Blatant racism abound within his supporters. And while some may not agree with this racism, supporting him and his policies amounts to supporting his racist ideals. Supporting him and his policies amounts to supporting a dictatorship, an authoritative government. Just look at his love and admiration for Putin, Orban and Jong Un. Trump’s goal is to be like them; in complete control of everyone’s life. Trump may have bungled his way through his first term, having no clue what it took to be President. He will not make the same mistakes again. While he may not have the intelligence to invalidate our democracy, his behind the scenes followers do. These are people that will be in his cabinet, these are people who know how to subjugate the rule of law, the idea of democracy.

I could go on for hours relating every policy difference but the main gist is the saving of democracy. And remember, all you MAGA party supporters, a vote for Harris don’t make you a Democrat, it makes you a PATRIOT (as Jeff Duncan so smartly related).

Vote for Harris/Walz. It will save our country from complete ruin. We can still save the USA!

I encourage you to comment, respond and maybe even some of you will have a chance e of heart!

Defund The DOJ?

I am not naive enough to think that certain departments of our government are perfect. The FBI, DOJ, DOE, etc. all have had their problems in the past. However….

Many Republicans are running on the idea that many of these departments need to be defunded, shutdown, etc..

Mike Pence wants to shut down the DOE, leaving open the religious schooling uprising that the evangelicals have been hoping for for years. The don’t believe that public schools teach our children enough about the wonders of God! Give me a break!

Ron DeSantis wants to defund the FBI because the department is being weaponized against the conservative movement. Come on now! the FBI has been a storied (if somewhat sleazy, especially in the 50s) organization for years. Republicans have raved about the department for decades. But now that they are lawfully serving warrants on the Republican God-man it’s time to defund.

Donald Trump (the aforementioned God-man) thinks that the whole government bureaucracy is out to get him. He is kind of right about that. He tried to take over the DOJ when he was in office and use the department as his own personal counsel. He tried to turn the FBI into his own law enforcement agency. Now though the department is out to get him. Seems like a good idea to me. Keep on keeping on top of the Orange-loser.

All this bullshit jockeying is just a way to rile up the Republican base. Apparently the voting base of the right wing will listen to anything these politicians have to say and believe it all.

Did you see the debate? How about the question about supporting Trump even if he is convicted. 7 of the 8 people on stage raised theirs hands. They would rather have a man convicted of insurrection, or voting fraud, or harboring classified documents or any of the other 91 counts as president than someone who believes in our country and our government.

If you are a Republican how do you feel about all these lawsuits? Do you really believe this is politically motivated? How about the Hunter Biden inquiry? Is that politically motivated? Maybe, just maybe all these charges are valid. Maybe just maybe Trump and Friends did try to steal the election back from the jaws of defeat. Fake electors, unproved voter fraud claims, all the lawsuits that were dismissed. Could this really be a Democratic plot to destroy the country? Look deep inside you and see if find another path to take.

House of Clowns

Better known as the House of Representatives

When Nancy Pelosi tore up the twice impeached former President’s SOTU speech a few years back I thought that it was a childish show of disrespect. But compared to what happened last Tuesday, well, I don’t think I need to explain. This video pretty much says it all.

I’ve never thought that Joe Biden was much of an orator. He does have a way of getting under people’s skin though. He did a great job of getting under the far right wing’s skin during his speech. I though he played them and they certainly took the bait. Made fools of themselves and then had to agree that Medicare and Social Security was off the table in negotiations. Of course that might change.

How about that Speaker of the House? Didn’t he do a great job of keeping his party members in line? This photo shows how involved he was during the speech. Do you think he ate something bad before the speech? Or was he thinking about how to get George Santos (if that is his name today) out of office. By the way, I heard that Mitt Romney told George Santos that he didn’t belong there. At least there is one Republican who respects the office.

WASHINGTON, DC – FEBRUARY 07: U.S. President Joe Biden delivers his State of the Union address during a joint meeting of Congress in the House Chamber of the U.S. Capitol on February 07, 2023 in Washington, DC. The speech marks Biden’s first address to the new Republican-controlled House. Seated behind President Biden are Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). So here we are, six years after the previous president was sworn into office. Two years into the current President’s 1st term. What have we learned? Politicians can be childish. Politicians can be idiots. Politicians can be vengeful. Politicians are changing. And they are doing all of that. Remember the days when we had respect for our elected officials? How about the respect they held for each other regardless of their policies? Have you ever watched the House of Commons in action? Parliamentarians all shouting at once, showing no respect for each other, calling each of names. That is what our House of Representatives is becoming. Now, being on the right side of the aisle (more often called the left) I believe that most of the problems are caused by those on the wrong side of the aisle (more often called the right). It seems that the flood gates have been opened and word hemorrhages are flowing out.

I would love to see a return to respect for those we elect. I don’t think that is going to happen in my lifetime.
