Defund The DOJ?

I am not naive enough to think that certain departments of our government are perfect. The FBI, DOJ, DOE, etc. all have had their problems in the past. However….

Many Republicans are running on the idea that many of these departments need to be defunded, shutdown, etc..

Mike Pence wants to shut down the DOE, leaving open the religious schooling uprising that the evangelicals have been hoping for for years. The don’t believe that public schools teach our children enough about the wonders of God! Give me a break!

Ron DeSantis wants to defund the FBI because the department is being weaponized against the conservative movement. Come on now! the FBI has been a storied (if somewhat sleazy, especially in the 50s) organization for years. Republicans have raved about the department for decades. But now that they are lawfully serving warrants on the Republican God-man it’s time to defund.

Donald Trump (the aforementioned God-man) thinks that the whole government bureaucracy is out to get him. He is kind of right about that. He tried to take over the DOJ when he was in office and use the department as his own personal counsel. He tried to turn the FBI into his own law enforcement agency. Now though the department is out to get him. Seems like a good idea to me. Keep on keeping on top of the Orange-loser.

All this bullshit jockeying is just a way to rile up the Republican base. Apparently the voting base of the right wing will listen to anything these politicians have to say and believe it all.

Did you see the debate? How about the question about supporting Trump even if he is convicted. 7 of the 8 people on stage raised theirs hands. They would rather have a man convicted of insurrection, or voting fraud, or harboring classified documents or any of the other 91 counts as president than someone who believes in our country and our government.

If you are a Republican how do you feel about all these lawsuits? Do you really believe this is politically motivated? How about the Hunter Biden inquiry? Is that politically motivated? Maybe, just maybe all these charges are valid. Maybe just maybe Trump and Friends did try to steal the election back from the jaws of defeat. Fake electors, unproved voter fraud claims, all the lawsuits that were dismissed. Could this really be a Democratic plot to destroy the country? Look deep inside you and see if find another path to take.

House of Clowns

Better known as the House of Representatives

When Nancy Pelosi tore up the twice impeached former President’s SOTU speech a few years back I thought that it was a childish show of disrespect. But compared to what happened last Tuesday, well, I don’t think I need to explain. This video pretty much says it all.

I’ve never thought that Joe Biden was much of an orator. He does have a way of getting under people’s skin though. He did a great job of getting under the far right wing’s skin during his speech. I though he played them and they certainly took the bait. Made fools of themselves and then had to agree that Medicare and Social Security was off the table in negotiations. Of course that might change.

How about that Speaker of the House? Didn’t he do a great job of keeping his party members in line? This photo shows how involved he was during the speech. Do you think he ate something bad before the speech? Or was he thinking about how to get George Santos (if that is his name today) out of office. By the way, I heard that Mitt Romney told George Santos that he didn’t belong there. At least there is one Republican who respects the office.

WASHINGTON, DC – FEBRUARY 07: U.S. President Joe Biden delivers his State of the Union address during a joint meeting of Congress in the House Chamber of the U.S. Capitol on February 07, 2023 in Washington, DC. The speech marks Biden’s first address to the new Republican-controlled House. Seated behind President Biden are Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). So here we are, six years after the previous president was sworn into office. Two years into the current President’s 1st term. What have we learned? Politicians can be childish. Politicians can be idiots. Politicians can be vengeful. Politicians are changing. And they are doing all of that. Remember the days when we had respect for our elected officials? How about the respect they held for each other regardless of their policies? Have you ever watched the House of Commons in action? Parliamentarians all shouting at once, showing no respect for each other, calling each of names. That is what our House of Representatives is becoming. Now, being on the right side of the aisle (more often called the left) I believe that most of the problems are caused by those on the wrong side of the aisle (more often called the right). It seems that the flood gates have been opened and word hemorrhages are flowing out.

I would love to see a return to respect for those we elect. I don’t think that is going to happen in my lifetime.

No Time To Mince Words

I’m not one to mince words. Though from time to time I do hold back a bit. NO LONGER!

Any elected or campaigning Republican who does not denounce any Trumpian Republican must not continue in, or be voted into, office. There are only a couple of Republicans that I would even consider to be eligible (and that would be a stretching it).

The whack-a-do governor of Florida who is trying to be more Trump-like than Trump is taking on Disney. He is saying that if Disney continues to campaign to overturn the “Don’t Say Gay” bill they will lose their special rights (rights which we can argue the legitimacy of later). In other words he believes in free speech as long as it doesn’t disagree with him. I’m hoping Disney can just shut down operations in Florida and find a new home. I know, I know, this leaves tens of thousands out of work and leaves the Orlando area with a huge debt load. I don’t like this because it hurts the people who need it the most. Maybe though Floridians will get a backbone and vote this fucker out of office. Colorado has already opened its arms to Disney.

I, for one, will not even consider a Republican candidate no matter what positions they espouse to, this limits my opportunities, limits me to voting for Democrats or Independents even if I don’t agree with all their platforms. But in good conscience I cannot do it. Republicans in general, not in particular, are trying to turn back the clock and all the gains that the minorities, the disaffected and any of those outside of the mainstream have made in this country. At a time when the United States of America has finally started to get closer to equal rights, so many want to take those rights away. There may be a select few Democrats that do not see it my way and I will weed those out. And maybe there are a select few Republicans that are moral, ethical, humane individuals but they are hard to find. Most are still hiding behind Trump’s skirts.

As I see it a majority of Republican candidates, officials and citizens are just homophobic, racist, anti-human rights, they believe that the white man (not white women of course) needs to be in charge A surprising number of people in the country feel the same. And while they were quiet for many years as equal rights spread, they have a voice today. And that voice is Trump.

How much worse could it get? I really don’t want to find out.

VOTE. VOTE. VOTE. I ask you to vote, and unapologetically I ask you to vote Democratic. No Republican should hold office in this country, period. Maybe some day my mind will change.
