House of Clowns

Better known as the House of Representatives

When Nancy Pelosi tore up the twice impeached former President’s SOTU speech a few years back I thought that it was a childish show of disrespect. But compared to what happened last Tuesday, well, I don’t think I need to explain. This video pretty much says it all.

I’ve never thought that Joe Biden was much of an orator. He does have a way of getting under people’s skin though. He did a great job of getting under the far right wing’s skin during his speech. I though he played them and they certainly took the bait. Made fools of themselves and then had to agree that Medicare and Social Security was off the table in negotiations. Of course that might change.

How about that Speaker of the House? Didn’t he do a great job of keeping his party members in line? This photo shows how involved he was during the speech. Do you think he ate something bad before the speech? Or was he thinking about how to get George Santos (if that is his name today) out of office. By the way, I heard that Mitt Romney told George Santos that he didn’t belong there. At least there is one Republican who respects the office.

WASHINGTON, DC – FEBRUARY 07: U.S. President Joe Biden delivers his State of the Union address during a joint meeting of Congress in the House Chamber of the U.S. Capitol on February 07, 2023 in Washington, DC. The speech marks Biden’s first address to the new Republican-controlled House. Seated behind President Biden are Vice President Kamala Harris and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). So here we are, six years after the previous president was sworn into office. Two years into the current President’s 1st term. What have we learned? Politicians can be childish. Politicians can be idiots. Politicians can be vengeful. Politicians are changing. And they are doing all of that. Remember the days when we had respect for our elected officials? How about the respect they held for each other regardless of their policies? Have you ever watched the House of Commons in action? Parliamentarians all shouting at once, showing no respect for each other, calling each of names. That is what our House of Representatives is becoming. Now, being on the right side of the aisle (more often called the left) I believe that most of the problems are caused by those on the wrong side of the aisle (more often called the right). It seems that the flood gates have been opened and word hemorrhages are flowing out.

I would love to see a return to respect for those we elect. I don’t think that is going to happen in my lifetime.
