We, as Americans now can move forward. The mid-terms are over. And win or lose it’s time to lick our wounds. The nastiness and vitriol that encompassed the latest elections are over (unless you’re in Arizona!). We now have a chance to make American the beacon the world looks to, the place where dreams can come true.
Is it possible in this time of hate? Yes it is. While we may not agree on the way forward, we have to agree to move forward. The racists and the anti-Semites need to put aside their hate and understand that we can rise above it all. We can, despite our differences, return our country to the gold standard of the world.
How can we put aside these differences? The differences have always been here. It’s just that in the last few years permissions has been given to act out. We can’t turn a racist into an anti-racist, we can’t turn an anti-Semite around. They have the right to their beliefs. They do not have the right to impose their beliefs on the rest of us.
So let us begin with ourselves, knowing that we all have different feelings and beliefs about the direction of our country. Within each of us is the ability to accept, while at the same time not agreeing with, those around us. The teams are assembled, the goals are in front of us, we only have one direction to head with many routes to get there.
For the next two years our government is set. Some of us won’t like the make up, some of us will, but all of us must accept that way it is. No more fighting about voter fraud, no more law suits to change the outcomes (Arizona again). It’s done, enough is enough.
