So it’s done. He is a Supreme Court Justice. Whether he did or didn’t his demeanor and partisan ranting should have been enough to disqualify him. I am very disappointed with Senator Collins for not truly standing up for her beliefs. She has always been concerned that she isn’t conservative enough for her constituency in Maine, but now she seems to have made that jump. The Democratic machine is already in motion making her a top target in 2020. Then there is Joe Manchin of West Virginia, a democrat who voted in favor. He believed something happened to Dr. Ford, but could not be convinced it was the nominee. What about Senator Flake (appropriate name today). He is retiring, what did he have to lose? Maybe future political plans?
It is a sad day for democracy.
How about term limits for Supreme Court Justices? This is something I have been thinking about for a long time. 18 year terms with a a term coming to conclusion every 2 years. That way each president (good or Trump) would be able to nominate at least 2 justices.
Or a new twist where the minority party picks the nominee? They would want someone who leans toward their politics but it would have to be someone that the majority would approve. That, I think, would lend itself to having more centrist justices that are not beholden to one particular party.
What do you think?
